What Is NZ Music Month?
NZ Music Month is a promotion run by the NZ Music Commission that takes place each May, with other organisations including NZ On Air, RIANZ, APRA, Independent Music NZ, and the Radio Broadcasters Association also closely involved. And obviously NZ Music Month could not succeed without the support of the country's labels, media, the general public, and, most importantly, the artists themselves.
Firmly entrenched as part of our cultural landscape, over the course of the last decade the month of May has gone from a period of encouraging radio to play more local tunes to a thirty one day celebration of homegrown talent across the length and breadth of the country.

What Is Radio Tairua planning (so far) in 2011?
- NZ Music Lunch Breaks - Monday to Friday from 12noon to 1pm throughout the month of May with Radio Tairua volunteer DJ's hosting shows featuring NZ favourite artists, albums, labels and genres.
- NZ Music Month Display @ Tairua Community Library - check out the vintage speaker & valve radio display throughout the month of May and enter the competition to win NZ Music Month Prize Packs
- Music Trivia Night @ Tairua Community Library - eight teams of five entered last year's event. Huge success, loads of laughs with a huge range of NZ Music prizes for all, plus major prizes for the top two teams. Register your teams now - close off is 20th May.
- NZ Music Giveaways - thanks to the generosity of Red Eye Society, PAUA, EMI Records, Hit Your Head Music, Knights Of The Dub Table who have all contributed to Radio Tairua's NZ Music Month prize packs and giveaways... with more to come!
- More NZ Music Month Giveaways - from Warner Music & Rip It Up Magazine... WICKED! Plus a fabulous gift basket from Lance & Maria @ TAIRUA PHARMARCY... you guys rock!
- Limited Edition Radio Tairua NZ Music Month T-Shirts - word from the designer as the tees are being printed is "they look EPIC!".
What A Fantastic Month!... Here Are The Results
- Donations of Music - Yet again we are absolutely blown away with the level of support from NZ Music Labels, Artists & Distributors... your generosity is greatly appreciated.
- NZ Music Month Display - great success, great the local community enjoyed it. Big thanks to the Tairua Library for supporting the Radio Station for yet another year and donating the space.
- Limited Edition Tees - the specially designed tees sold really well. A few made appearances @ Glastonbury Music Festival (thanks Chris & Brett). A few were given away as prizes to our loyal listeners. Thanks to Nick Moaty of Ministry of Signs for his epic design.
- NZ Music Prize Packs - two prize packs of music and giveaways were won by Wendy Kinzett & Stef Haddock valued @ $350 each.
- Music Trivia Night - five teams of five, NZ Music trivia, food, wine and laughter - making for a great night out in the 'rua. Everyone was a winner on the night - with CD giveaways for all participants (that's before the quizzing begain), minor prize packs for all participants (after the hard work was done) and two major prizes for the top scoring teams. Thanks to Emma @ Tairua Library for helping us to organise and host this event.
- NZ Music Lunch Breaks - thoroughly enjoyed by our loyal listeners and the volunteer DJ's who hosted shows every weekday throughout the month.
